  Chilliwack Cultural Centre Project

The construction of the new Chilliwack Cultural Centre is on schedule and community arts and cultural groups are anticipating the opening of the state-of-the-art facility in the fall of 2010.

Employment Opportunities at the new Cultural Centre

View Construction PhotosThe Chilliwack Cultural Centre is a $22 million community cultural facility in the heart of downtown Chilliwack. The completed Centre will include an art gallery, a 500+ seat performance theatre, a 150 seat recital hall/rehearsal space/dance studio/meeting space, music instruction rooms, arts and crafts studios and related amenities. It is located on City-owned land at The Landing, adjacent to existing sports and recreation facilities and Prospera Centre. The Cultural Centre is being constructed by Bird Construction Company with Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd. The ground-breaking took place July 9th, 2008.

In December of 2008, the City appointed the inaugural Board of Directors. The governance Board manages and oversees administrative and operational aspects of the Chilliwack Arts and Cultural Centre Society who have a contract with the City of Chilliwack to operate the Centre. The Board anticipates hiring an executive director by September of 2009.

ClickPlans for the Cultural Centre were developed through a consultative process led by a Cultural Centre Advisory Committee, which included representatives from the City and community arts and cultural groups. The City financed the project with some assistance from cultural partner groups, service clubs, private sector partners, and federal and provincial grants.

Rotary Club of Chilliwack Pledges $100,000

The Rotary Club of Chilliwack has committed $100,000 toward the equipping of the multi-purpose recital hall in the new centre. To be named Rotary Hall, the 150-seat space will host a wide variety of performances and community events. “Our club has a proud history of commitment to Chilliwack,” said Rotary president Barrie McMaster. “We celebrate our 75th year in 2008-2009 and we are delighted that we can provide this auditorium to mark the occasion.”
