Public Works
Departmental Responsibilities:
The Public Works Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's sanitary sewer, potable water, roads, open drainage, storm sewer and dyke infrastructure.
Providing water and sewer service to over 17,000 properties within the municipal boundaries the Public Works Department maintains and operates 43 sanitary pump stations, a wastewater treatment plant, 7 drinking water production wells, 9 potable water pumping stations, 14 water reservoirs and 3 drainage pumping stations. Also maintained are over 1,300 kilometres of roads, sanitary sewer mains, storm drains, and water distribution pipes.
The department is also responsible for monitoring drinking water quality and for responding to drinking water quality complaints.

Chilliwack Mountain Drinking Water System

The City of Chilliwack is currently performing maintenance work on the Chilliwack Mountain drinking water distribution system. The work necessitates the chlorination of the drinking water supply in the Chilliwack Mountain area ONLY from approximately November 6th through to November 30th, 2009. |

Cross Connection Control Program (CCCP)

To maintain water quality within the City's water distribution system by eliminating cross connections. |

Snow and Ice Control Program
|
|
The goal of the program is to maintain safe travel routes during snow and ice conditions and restoration of the mobility for the traveling public within a reasonable time frame following cessation of storm conditions. |

Snow Angels Needed!

The Seniors' Resources Society, in cooperation with the City of Chilliwack, is seeking volunteers to assist seniors and disabled persons who may need help during winter snowfall events. |

Vedder Canal Dykes Restricted Access
|
|
Over the past 2 years, the City has experienced an increase in vandalism and theft at its two drainage pump stations located on the Vedder Dyke. |

Water Quality
|
|
Your drinking water is obtained from the Sardis-Vedder Aquifer, a natural underground water reservoir. Although the Sardis-Vedder Aquifer currently yields water of excellent quality, it is a highly sensitive source which is vulnerable to contamination. |
