The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve an efficient operation within the Parks, Recreation and Culture Department through the reliable performance of duties related to the development design and construction of new municipal parks in compliance with municipal policies and safety practices.
The incumbent in this class will be responsible for the coordination of activities related to the design of new parks, park facilities and urban landscaping, including: preparation of site design, project budgeting, contract management, coordination with other departments and coordination with external agencies, such as homeowners, user groups, the Business Improvement Association and the Ministry of Environment. The incumbent will be responsible for the development of new sports fields, and will coorinate urban reforestation activities in commercial and residential areas. The incumbent will liaise with and assist other departments, including Municipal Development and Engineering, in the landscaping of future developments. The incumbent will conduct landscape inspections to BC Nursery Trades Association landscape standards, in order to ensure that the required landscaping meets City standards. The incumbent will supervise the work of other staff as assigned, consistent with the requirement of projects in progress. The incumbent will also perform other related duties as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Parks Manager. |
| Education: |
Must possess a minimum of a two year diploma in landscape design, construction maintenance technology, or the equivalent combination of training and experience. |
| Skills & Abilities: |
- Must have sound knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures associated with the use of computers and computer assisted design and drafting applicable to the design of parks and landscape architecture;
- Must have a working knowledge of the use of a theodolite and a variety of survey techniques related to the design and maintenance of parks;
- Must be capable of reading, drafting and understanding complex drawings, designs and blueprints;
- Must be in possession of a valid BC Driverýs Licence with appropriate classifications of the equipment assigned;

The incumbent in this class is responsible for all maintenance and repair requirements of all municipal vehicles and equipment as assigned; overhauling, repairing and maintaining a wide variety of automotive, mobile and stationary equipment; rebuilding and replacing transmissions; installing and repairing motors, front and rear assemblies and steering and braking systems. The incumbent will be required to perform welding and fabricating work. The incumbent will organize routine work and assist drivers/operators in regard to the maintenance of equipment and vehicles on which they work. The incumbent will be required to perform other related duties as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision in accordance with established routine and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Mechanic Foreman. |

-Must have successfully completed a registered apprentice program in heavy duty mechanics as sponsored by the Department of Labour;
-Must hold a valid Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate;
-Hold or able to obtain B.C. Pressure Fuel Certification;
