  A Stroll Through Downtown Chilliwack

A walk through downtown Chilliwack reveals to visitors a community that is rich in arts, culture and history, and alive with activities for visitors of all ages. Chilliwack also has many activities and festivals going on during the year, visit our Events section for more information.

Take a trip down the Yale Road Historic Corridor

Library

The Chilliwack Library, nestled beside picturesque Salish Park, is an excellent place to stop and relax, and perhaps catch up on some quiet reading time.

A large assortment of books for adults and children, a full selection of newspapers, periodicals, and magazines as well as large print and audio books are available for your reading pleasure.

On Wednesdays during July and August, between noon and 1:30 pm you can enjoy "Music and More", a series of lunch time concerts in the park. Included in these free weekly programs is a "take part" activity designed for all age groups to enjoy. Visit the Library page in this site for more information.

Museum

As you leave the library and head down Spadina Avenue, you can't help but notice the historic white building with the curved front  staircases. Formerly the Chilliwack City Hall, this beautifully restored building now houses the Chilliwack Museum. Visitors are welcome to take a tour through the museum's permanent display, a time capsule approach which allows you to view objects spanning 160 years of Chilliwack history. A convenient guide provides a detailed description of each of the objects on display. If it's time for a little refreshment, a varied selection of restaurants, providing everything from light snacks to exotic Greek dinners is located around the downtown area. Visit the Museum page in this site for more information.

Farmers' Market

If you prefer to snack on some fresh B.C. fruit, pay a visit to the friendly folk at the open area Farmers Market at the end of Mill Street. The farmers’ market runs every Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. through July and August. For more information call 604-794-3999, or email chwkfarmersmarket@yahoo.ca or visit us at www.ChilliwackFarmersMarket.com

Arts Centre

Just a short hop from the market, at the corner of College and Henderson, is the Chilliwack Arts Centre, Chilliwack's "Heart of the Arts". The centre houses a 340 seat theatre, two dance studios, several workshop and meeting rooms and a full-time gallery and the offices of the Chilliwack Arts Council. A great variety of concerts and theatre performances, both professional and amateur, take place year round in this busy cultural centre. Visit the Arts Centre's page in this site for more information.
