Noise Control

The City of Chilliwack's Community Standards Bylaw regulates or prohibits the making of objectionable noise within the City of Chilliwack that may disturb the quiet or enjoyment of other individuals. Noise from amplified music, parties, construction noise, and barking dogs are examples of noises that you or your neighbours might find disturbing. Depending on the specific circumstances, these noises may be prohibited by bylaw.

The information below provides a brief summary of some of the most common noise issues experienced in our community and who to contact for more information or to lodge a complaint.

  • General Noise Which Disturbs: This may include amplified or loud music, parties, shouting, yelling, etc. Depending on the specific circumstances of each situation, these noises may be prohibited by bylaw. Some of the factors that are considered include the nature of the noise, the time of day that the noise is occurring, the duration and frequency of the noise, the zoning of the property from which the noise is emanating, etc.
