Tyson – Stevenson Sanitary Sewer Project

Construction Underway on Edson and Jewel.
On November 30, 2009 the Province of BC and the Federal Government announced $2.5 million dollars in funding from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund for the installation of a sanitary sewer system in the Tyson-Stevenson area. This grant funding provides up to 2/3 the cost of the sewer installation with the remaining amount split between the City of Chilliwack and the area residents. The project has a completion requirement by March 2011 in order to meet the funding requirements.
This project will be delivered as a design build project. We have now received the Request for Proposals for the construction of sewers in the Tyson–Stevenson area from the design build teams. The selected design build team for this project is Sandpiper Contracting LLP / McElhanney Consulting Service Ltd as they agreed to service all 442 properties in the area with slight modification to the allotted budget. In addition to bringing the sanitary sewer services into the Tyson-Stevenson area, the price also includes road rehabilitation to all roads in the affected area. The attached project area map shows the complete service area for the project.
To take advantage of the senior government funding and the appropriate construction season, Council has initiated the “petitioning” process in the fourth week of April which will close on May 31, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. A public meeting/open house was held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 7:00 pm at Sardis Senior Secondary School. At this meeting we once again confirmed the cost as contained in the petition notice, as well as the staging of the work, and provide a full explanation of the petitioning process and the payment options available to you.
Following the acceptance of the project by the area residents, construction is expected to start in early June 2010. The majority of work is expected to be completed by November 2010.
