The Cheam Centre Renovation project will redevelop and upgrade the existing Cheam Centre into a high-quality community recreation destination. The project includes construction of a new six-lane 25 metre pool with change rooms, a gradual-entry family leisure pool and play features, administration area, storage rooms, and improvement of existing spaces. The existing swimming pool and old curling rink buildings will be demolished.

As part of the project preparation, ownership of the community centre site was transferred from Canada Lands to the City of Chilliwack. In the fall of 2008, the City awarded the Cheam Centre Renovation project contract to Preview Builders International Inc., a Chilliwack based company.

The renovation of the Cheam Centre is a two-phase project. The first phase of reconstruction is now underway in late 2008, with substantial completion expected by spring 2010, and an opening in late spring or early summer of 2010. A fitness facility upgrade is planned as a second phase which is currently budgeted for 2015.
