  Crystal Meth Information Forum

Updated Dec 1/07: In May 2006, the City of Chilliwack received a grant in the amount of $10,000 from the Province of BC's "Communities Responding to Methamphetamine" grant funding program. You can download the report in our reports section of the website or a copy can be obtained by calling Corporate Services at 604-793-2986.

The City of Chilliwack hosted a Crystal Meth Information Forum on Oct 12, 2005 to help raise awareness of the effects of crystal meth production and addiction on our community.

BIO: John Les was appointed Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General on June 16, 2005. He previously served as Minister of Small Business and Economic Development. Mr. Les was first elected to represent the riding of Chilliwack-Sumas in 2001 and re-elected in 2005. Before being elected to the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Les served as Mayor of Chilliwack for 12 years. He also served as a municipal councillor for three years before he became Mayor.

BIO: Angela Marshal is an internationally certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor holding a Masters degree in Counseling and Psychology.  She is a youth and family therapist with Fraser House Alcohol and Drug Outpatient Society  and the Sto:lo Youth Healing Centre. She works with youth aged 13 to 24 and has worked with youth addictions in the Fraser Valley for the past 7 years.

BIO: Sheena is a 30-year old recovering meth addict, who is here to share a personal story. She is currently working with the Cheam Band in the field of Economic Development.

BIO:

Received medical degree from UBC in 1978 and interned in New Zealand.  Returned to BC and has practiced family medicine in Mission since 1980. In 1986 he began practicing addiction medicine.  He has been an instructor with the Department of Family Practice at UBC since 1984 and is certified by the American and Canadian Societies of Addiction Medicine.   In the last year, he has been a methadone practice auditor for the College of Physicians of BC.  Dr. Wouterloot presently practices family and addiction medicine in Mission and also works sessions at the Abbotsford Addictions Centre.

BIO: Jim Skinner has been in the teaching profession for 34 years. He has been a classroom teacher and a Learning Assistance teacher at both elementary & secondary levels. Jim has been a district counselor in Chilliwack and Burnaby.  He was an Assistant Director of Professional Development at the B.C.T.F., responsible for Continuing Education, Children’s Rights Committee, and the Professional Development Advisory Committee. Jim has been an instructor in both the Faculty of Education and Counseling Psychology at U.B.C. and more recently at City University. For the past 5 years he has been the District Principal of Alternate Education in Chilliwack.  Jim has published materials and articles on School Wide Approach to Co-operative Discipline.

BIO: Cpl. Rintoul joined the RCMP in 1980 and has worked in Uniform Patrol and Drug Enforcement in the cities of Richmond, Surrey and Vancouver.  He serves as an expert witness for Provincial Court and Supreme Court on Cocaine, Heroin, Ecstasy (MDMA), MDA, GHB, Methamphetamine, PCP, Ketamine, Psilocybin Mushrooms, LSD, Marihuana and Rave Parties. Since 1998 he has been the file coordinator for a Chemical Drugs Intelligence Probe into the Rave (all night dance parties), Concerts and Night Club scene throughout the Greater Vancouver Regional District.  He has personally attended over 150 events and has been responsible for the seizure of several thousand street level illicit drugs, many of which (1,500) have been analyzed for intelligence purposes. He is the co-Author of  "Designer Drugs & Raves" 2nd  Edition and 1st  Edition and "Chemical Drugs - A Reference Manual for First Responders".

BIO: Mike McCarthy has been a police officer for 19 years. He has worked in five locations in the province from Northern B.C, south to Chilliwack . He has done General Duty policing, worked as a  Detachment Commander in two locations, worked in a Serious Crime Unit and a Community Policing Unit. He has been with the Upper Fraser Valley Detachment for 6 years. He will provide information on the national Meth Watch Program.
